Microsoft wants the Xbox experience on PC to finally feel snappy. Since November 5, Xbox Insiders have been able to try out a revamped Xbox PC app, which the manufacturer claims launches up to 60 percent faster. Those not in the Insider program will have to wait: the update is currently exclusive to Insiders.
How fast is the new Xbox PC app, really?
Microsoft provides three specific figures in its original announcement on Xbox Wire:
- App launch is up to 60 percent faster.
- Pages like Home, Store, and Game Pass load up to 50 percent faster.
- In-app windows open up to 65 percent faster.
It's important to note that these figures come from Microsoft's own tests and may vary depending on the device, internet connection, and system configuration. Therefore, each figure is preceded by an “up to.”

Library, friends, search: What changes in daily use
Beyond speed, the update brings several structural changes you'll notice immediately during daily gaming:
- The library features simpler navigation, updated filters, and new ways to organize games.
- Friends and social features move to the main menu. You'll see what your friends are playing faster, can chat, or join a party.
- The search now combs through more of Xbox in one place, including games (even installed titles and add-ons) and people.
- Game Cards, homepage, settings, and animations have been revamped. According to Eurogamer, there is also a Light and a Dark Mode.

Cloud gaming comes to more devices
The package extends beyond the PC. The revamped web interface for Xbox Cloud Gaming is expected to automatically reach more players in the coming weeks. Those who don't want to wait can try it now via play.xbox.com, according to Microsoft. Additionally, updates for the Cloud Gaming apps are rolling out to supported TVs and VR headsets. Eurogamer summarizes this by stating that cloud gaming is being expanded to more browsers, smart TVs, and VR headsets.
How does this fit in?
The tone is noteworthy. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma describes the update as a “meaningful improvement” but adds that there is “plenty more to do.” Microsoft itself also states that it knows where the experience could be better and that feedback will shape the next steps. This is more honest than the usual marketing hype.
Our assessment: Percentage values from the manufacturer's lab are an invitation to measure for oneself, not proof. The crucial factor will be whether the app feels noticeably snappier on an average gaming PC, not just on a test machine. Releasing the update to Insiders first is the right approach, as it allows for quick feedback before everyone else is affected. Neither Microsoft nor Eurogamer specify when the new version will be released for all players.

Are you in the Xbox Insider program and have you already tested the new PC app? Does it really launch noticeably faster for you?
