Esports history was made today, Saturday, in Paris: In the Grand Finals of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competition at the Esports World Cup 2026, Team Spirit prevailed against Myanmar's Yangon Galacticos. After a thrilling seven-game series, the final score was 4-3 in favor of Team Spirit – making the organization the first team ever from outside Southeast Asia to win one of the two biggest international MLBB titles.
The MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2026 was originally planned for Riyadh but was relocated to Paris in May, running there from July 22 to August 1. A total of 25 teams from around the world competed for a share of the approximately 3 million US dollar prize pool, with the winner taking home one million dollars.
The Arduous Path to the Finals
Both finalists had to fight hard for their spot in the final round. Team Spirit swept past Team Vamos with a clear 3-0 in the quarterfinals – a form of revenge for an earlier defeat against the South Americans – and subsequently left Indonesia's ONIC Esports no chance with another 3-0 in the semifinals. The Yangon Galacticos, in turn, also secured a clear 3-0 victory against PRO Esports in the quarterfinals before knocking out the powerhouse Philippine team, Team Falcons PH, in the semifinals, thus ending a years-long streak of Philippine teams reaching the MSC finals.
Why This Victory Means So Much
For years, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has been considered the domain of Southeast Asia: The Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar have virtually consistently produced the champions at both the M-Series World Championship and the MSC. The fact that an organization primarily known for Dota 2 and CS2 is now taking home the MSC trophy represents a true break from tradition for the MLBB scene and demonstrates how much the game has established itself outside its core markets. From our perspective, this is a strong signal to organizations outside Asia to seriously invest in MLBB – the title proves that SEA's dominance can indeed be challenged.
