Shortly before the release of GTA 6, a question is causing discussions: Is it cheating if you flirt with a character in a game? A YouGov survey provides surprising figures.
In September, the institute surveyed 4,000 British adults. Around 6 percent consider dating in a video game to be cheating. Another 19 percent say it's not cheating, but they wouldn't be okay with it.

How do Men and Women Differ in the Survey?
Significantly. Among men, 4 percent see it as cheating, 13 percent find it not okay. Among women, 7 percent consider it cheating, and 24 percent find it not okay. Women are clearly more critical of the issue.
The BBC picked up on the survey with the question of whether one can cheat with a game character. This sparked a lot of ridicule on social media. One user essentially wrote that game characters aren't real. Another asked if one could be arrested for murder in Call of Duty. Many also referred to The Sims, where relationships, marriages, and families have long been simulated.
What does this have to do with the Relationship System in GTA 6?
GTA 6 is set to be released in November, officially on November 19, 2026. Jason and Lucia are at the center of the story. The launch trailer features three intimate shower scenes. According to previews, the two can kiss and hold hands at the press of a button. On Rockstar's official website, you can find the game along with its story premise.
Their relationship can flourish or wither, depending on how quickly you respond to text messages. The whole thing is optional. If you don't bother with it, you'll get less affectionate characters, who will still support each other in an emergency. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North told IGN that you feel like a steward of the relationship.
Already in August, IGN reported on angry partners on social media who considered the relationship system cheating. Regarding the age rating, we have already explained why GTA 6 is rated 18+.
From our perspective, the excitement is more of a relationship issue than a game issue. The survey primarily shows that couples have different boundaries. Whether you care about a virtual flirtation is something you should discuss with your partner, rather than referring to statistics. The figures are also only from Great Britain.
