The GTA 6 community claims to have discovered a method to play the game on PS5 at 60 frames per second, instead of the official 30 fps.
So far, Rockstar Games has officially announced only a single graphics mode for the standard PS5: 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. A true performance mode with 60 fps was not on the list. This is precisely where a discovery from the fan community comes in, first reported by GamePro. According to the report, players claim to have found a trick that is supposed to make GTA 6 feel significantly smoother on PS5 than the official 30 fps mode suggests.
How is the 60 FPS Trick for GTA 6 on PS5 Supposed to Work?
Important disclaimer: Rockstar itself has not confirmed or enabled an additional performance mode. The method circulating in the community is therefore not an official feature, but rather a workaround that players claim to have pieced together themselves. Experience shows that such console game tricks usually aren't based on a genuine doubling of the in-game render framerate, but rather on post-processing video interpolation or adjustments to output and display settings that make the motion appear smoother. Whether this particular case actually leads to noticeably better performance in live gameplay or is more of a visual effect in comparison videos cannot be conclusively confirmed at this time. Anyone wishing to try the trick should be aware that it is an unofficial solution without support from Rockstar.
The fact that the community spares no effort when it comes to GTA 6 is not a new phenomenon. Only recently, GTA 6 fans caused a stir with fake reviews of a real-life nudist resort. Expectations for the game are enormous, and every opportunity to optimize technical details or test them in advance is immediately picked up and disseminated by the community.
Will Rockstar Officially Add a Performance Mode Later?
A look at the past shows that this wouldn't be unrealistic. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 received post-launch patches years after their release, improving performance on newer hardware, such as when the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launched. While Rockstar hasn't announced anything comparable for GTA 6's release yet, a later performance patch with a 60 fps option is certainly conceivable given this history. Most recently, a new video showcasing GTA 6's driving physics also demonstrated how much technical fine-tuning could still happen before release.
For players, this currently means one thing above all: wait and treat unofficial tricks with healthy skepticism. Those who want to play it safe should prefer to wait for an official statement from Rockstar before using system settings or third-party software for an unofficial performance boost.
More information about the game is available on the official GTA 6 website from Rockstar Games, as well as on the official PS5 product page.
