Modern Warfare 4: DMZ Weapon XP Carries Over to Multiplayer

The Multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23rd – DMZ is already playable in Early Access. The good news: Players who invest time there will gain a head start for the traditional Multiplayer. We explain how the three progression systems are connected.

Can I Level Up My Multiplayer Weapons in DMZ?

Yes. Weapon XP is fully shared. Whether you use a weapon in DMZ or Multiplayer, you will always increase the same weapon level. This means you can unlock attachments and camos even before Multiplayer launches.

How Are Player Level and DMZ Level Connected?

MW4 has three unlock systems that partially interlink:

  • Weapon XP: Fully shared between DMZ and Multiplayer.
  • Multiplayer Level (1–55): XP from DMZ contributes to Rank and Prestige. Conversely, Multiplayer matches do not grant XP for the DMZ Rank. According to GameStar, Warzone will also count from Season 1 onwards.
  • DMZ Level (1–70): A separate system for exclusive rewards such as Forward Operating Base (FOB) expansions. It can only be increased through DMZ activities.

At Level 55, you can utilize the Prestige system and reset your progress for permanent unlocks.

Is Grinding DMZ Worth It Before Multiplayer Launches?

From our perspective, yes – with one caveat: This approach rewards players who are already interested in the Extraction mode. DMZ offers a different gameplay experience than Team Deathmatch, and the path to a level advantage involves risky runs where you can lose your gear. So, if you only want to quickly level up weapons, you shouldn't set your expectations too high. We've summarized how to get started in our guide to Traits, MIA, and Prestige in DMZ, and it's also important to know that DMZ is not free.
