The final stop before the Major Finals: On July 27th and 28th, the Fortnite Championship Series hosted the "Last Chance Lobbies" for Major 2 – the ultimate opportunity for Duos who narrowly missed the cut in previous heats. In Europe, qualification took place on July 28th, with North American regions following a day later on July 29th.
How the Last Chance Lobby Works
The principle is simple but merciless: The top 50 Duos from each region qualify for the Last Chance Lobby. In this lobby, only one result per match counts – whoever wins a round with a Victory Royale directly secures their ticket for the Major 2 Finals on August 1st and 2nd. No point system, no second chances within the lobby, just a pure all-or-nothing format under immense pressure.
Why the Format Changed This Season
Compared to Major 1, Epic Games deliberately simplified the system: The previous Divisional Cup system was removed to give more players a realistic chance to make it to the Finals. FNCS 2026 also returns to a Duos format, after the entire 2025 season was switched to Trios – a return to familiar team compositions for many pro players. The top Duos from the Major 1 showdown, the Major 2 Finals, and this very Last Chance Qualifier will ultimately qualify for the Fortnite Global Championship, which takes place in Antwerp on September 26th and 27th.
For the community, this means: Those who fight their way through the Last Chance Lobby often have had a tougher journey than some directly qualified top players – and consequently enter the Finals highly motivated. This very fact often makes Last Chance participants underestimated dark horses in the Major Finals.
