Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 has barely been released, and CD Projekt Red is already rolling out the next patch – causing a lot of speculation. Roughly 1.2 GB in size, with no patch notes, and seemingly nothing changing in-game. Now, the studio has revealed what it's all about.
The answer is rather mundane: The patch fixes an error that exclusively affected players in Argentina. Some players there were losing access to their saved game files. The problem is now said to be resolved with the new update.
Why Does Everyone Have to Download the Patch?
That's exactly what many are asking: If the error only affects Argentina, why is the download landing on everyone's hard drive? According to CD Projekt Red, this is due to the nature of the fix. The patch must be distributed worldwide, even if nothing changes outside of Argentina. On PS5, it carries version number 2.500.200 and was released just five days after the major Update 2.5.
In practical terms for you: You don't have to do anything except let the download complete. No new content, balance changes, or bug fixes for other issues are included. So, anyone hoping for corrections for bugs that might have snuck in with 2.5 will be disappointed here.
What Did Update 2.5 Bring Anyway?
The big update packed a punch and explains why there's so much activity right now:
- a collaboration with the second season of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
- items from The Witcher 3
- the ability to dual-wield pistols
According to GamePro, the patch was so successful that Steam player counts were higher than they had been in a long time since the game's release. So, anyone who hasn't visited Night City in a while now has a good reason to return – and one more or less update download won't make much of a difference.
Is Silence Regarding Patches a Problem?
From our perspective: a little bit. While a 1.2 GB download appearing without patch notes isn't a drama, it triggers exactly what happened here – speculation in the community about whether something was secretly changed. A single line like „Fix for save game issue in one region” would have sufficed. Nevertheless, the fact that CD Projekt Red later clarified the matter via social media is a good sign for their communication.
You can find more about the game on the studio's official Cyberpunk 2077 page, and the title is also available in the Steam Store.
