It's that time again: Shipment is live in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The notorious mini-map is the first map to be added post-launch, and it's available in two places in the game.
Where Can I Play Shipment in Modern Warfare 4?
Activision has added the map to the regular 6v6 map rotation. Additionally, there's the playlist Shipment 24/7, where you play exclusively on Shipment, with only the mode changing. This very playlist is beloved by camo and challenge grinders, as it allows for chaining kills in a confined space. The announcement came on the evening of October 27th, and according to IGN, the map has been available since then.
The map is set in a Russian shipyard, squeezed between water and concrete structures. The layout remains classic, while its visuals and gameplay have been adapted to the Modern Warfare 4 engine.
Why Is Shipment So Legendary?
The map originated in the original Modern Warfare from 2007, making it almost 20 years old. Reportedly, it was initially just a test environment, partly for split-screen, and accidentally remained in the final game. Updates were expensive and rare back then, so they simply left it in. Fans celebrated the chaos, and Shipment became a perennial favorite, returning in many installments of the series.
What's Next for Modern Warfare 4?
Just in time for Halloween, Activision is following up with more content. According to Nintendo Life, the Possession mode launches on October 29th, where you eliminate opponents to take them over, followed by Infected (Survivors vs. Infected) on October 30th. The first season is expected to kick off next week, according to IGN. What exactly it contains is not yet officially known. New weapons, a Battle Pass, and skins would be no surprise, given previous seasons in the series.
What Does This Mean for the Multiplayer's Quality?
From our perspective, the timing is clever. IGN recently noted in its review that while the multiplayer is fun, it doesn't significantly advance the series. With Shipment, Activision is catering precisely to players who want fast, chaotic matches, bridging the gap until the first season. As seen with the launch (here's our overview of the launch), nostalgia always works in Call of Duty. Whether Shipment 24/7 remains as populated as it is in the first few days remains to be seen.
Tip for Camo Hunters: This playlist is perfect for grinding out kill challenges. However, expect spawn chaos – it's part of the experience on this map.
