Battlefield 6 is a pure first-person shooter, but two community modders are currently demonstrating what the game feels like with a shoulder camera. Developers ViperStudiosAndy and TabbedScamper have built a third-person camera in the Battlefield 6 Portal, which is now also available as a standalone script for all Portal experiences.

How did Battlefield 6 get a third-person view?
The starting point was a reinterpretation of Capital Supremacy, the large mode from Star Wars Battlefront 2, which the two recreated in Portal. You can play the experience with the code “11BQ6”. According to MP1st, the mode was so well received that the creators extracted the camera and released it as a standalone third-person script, complete with a tutorial video for anyone who wants to tinker with it themselves.
The script is located in a public GitHub repository by andy6170 and works with Portal Experiences from Blocks and TypeScript. According to the description, it includes these features:
- Shoulder switching, meaning toggling the camera between the left and right shoulder
- Dynamic aiming: With sniper rifles and rocket launchers, the view switches to first-person when aiming
- Camera height adjustment depending on stance (standing, crouching, etc.)
- A parallax crosshair when aiming down sights
- The
enableThirdPersonfunction, which allows the camera to be turned on or off at any time, for example, for cutscenes
By default, the camera is active. According to the instructions, controller players must assign the interact button in the control settings, otherwise, shoulder switching will not work.
Who can use the shoulder camera, and who cannot?
It's important to clarify: This is not a feature from DICE, but a community tool. It only affects Portal experiences that incorporate the script; in normal matchmaking, Battlefield 6 remains a first-person shooter. For Portal creators, the barrier is low thanks to the Blocks variant: import the script, and you're done. Whether more modes with a shoulder camera will emerge from this remains to be seen.
MP1st feels the gameplay is reminiscent of The Division 2. This comparison is apt, as a shoulder camera plus cover-based combat is precisely the mix that loot-shooter fans are familiar with. Whether something like this will ever become official is an open question. It is known that DICE is collaborating with Respawn Entertainment, and rumors link this to a possible Star Wars Battlefront 3. This has not yet been confirmed.
Our assessment: For Battlefield itself, this remains a neat gimmick, but it demonstrates how flexible the Portal tool has become. The fact that a Star Wars mode, including a camera overhaul, can be realized within it is a strong argument for the editor.
Even outside of Portal, Battlefield 6 continues to evolve: Phase 2 will bring the Casino Heist Event with a new map starting November 10, followed by the early rollout of the server browser after November 10.

Would you play Battlefield 6 permanently with a shoulder camera, or do you prefer the first-person perspective?
