Gears of War is celebrating a birthday: The original game was released 20 years ago on the Xbox 360, with the exact anniversary being November 7. Developer The Coalition is marking the occasion with a two-week anniversary event in Gears of War: E-Day and a rather substantial gift: RAAM is free for every player.

How to get RAAM for free in Gears of War: E-Day?
It's simple: just log in. For the anniversary on November 7, The Coalition is giving RAAM to every E-Day player as a multiplayer character. According to Xbox Wire, he will be unlocked directly upon login. If you own the game, all you need to do is launch it and claim him.
Two-week anniversary event with special modes
The anniversary event has already started this week and will run for two weeks. It features two limited-time modes along with new rewards:
- Guardian (Versus): Only one leader survives.
- For the Queen (Horde Siege): The Supply Cache is deactivated. You and your squad rely exclusively on your own loadouts.
For the Queen, in particular, should appeal to Horde veterans: without resupply via the cache, every loadout decision counts, and mistakes cannot be fixed mid-wave.
Season 2 “Legacy”: What's coming on December 1?
Immediately afterward, The Coalition is following up: Season 2, titled “Legacy,” begins on December 1. It celebrates the greatest hits from 20 years of Gears in maps, modes, and multiplayer skins. Fan favorites from the series' history will return, and the team also plans to reinterpret characters. Xbox Wire cites the “Solemn Memories Dom” skin as an example, which shows Dom in the suit he wears in the famous photo with Maria from Gears of War 2.

Why is RAAM such a fitting gift?
Here's our assessment: E-Day takes place 14 years before the first installment, during the period when the Locust first emerge from underground. With RAAM, the well-known antagonist from the original Gears is making his way into the prequel's multiplayer. This is a charming time jump and a clear nod to everyone who has followed the series since the Xbox 360. The tone of the Xbox Wire post also fits this: The Coalition speaks of friendships forged in multiplayer lobbies, Horde rounds as a weekly tradition, and thanks the community that has supported Gears for two decades. The event has no price for you, only a time frame: the special modes are limited, so if you want to try them out, you should check in over the next few days.
Important for anyone who doesn't yet have E-Day: According to the source, the gift is for players of the game. If you're jumping in now, you should pay particular attention to the limited-time modes.
