Forty years of The Legend of Zelda – Nintendo isn't letting that pass without its own dedicated showcase. Today marks the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, and apparently, the long-awaited Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 is at its center.
When Does the Zelda Direct Air Today?
According to the official announcement, the stream starts at 7 AM US Pacific Time, which means 4 PM CEST for us. It's planned to run for around 30 minutes and will be broadcast on YouTube and Nintendo.com. If you haven't had enough after that: A regular Nintendo Direct with a broader software outlook will follow just one day later, on September 9.
What Will Be Shown at the Zelda Direct?
It's officially confirmed that Nintendo will present both non-game-related activities for the series' 40th anniversary and provide new details on Ocarina of Time for Switch 2. This very remake is already generating buzz: Shortly before the Direct, the game's price was reportedly accidentally visible via the Australian eShop – but more on that in detail in a separate report. Whether Nintendo will add any further game announcements during the stream itself or if it will indeed stick to the remake focus remains to be seen.
What Is the Community Hoping for from the Zelda Direct?
In relevant forums and on Reddit, three wishes are circulating: Switch 2 re-releases of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, a final update on the Ocarina of Time remake, and a new trailer for the live-action Zelda film, currently set for theaters on April 30, 2027. However, a bit of caution is advised: For the 35th anniversary in 2021, the community had similar high hopes, but in the end, it mostly remained limited to merchandise announcements without major software surprises. Should this happen again, disappointment in the comment sections would likely not be long in coming. From our perspective, however, there's a lot to suggest that Nintendo will deliver more this time: A 40-year anniversary carries more weight than a 35-year one, and with the Ocarina of Time remake, a concrete software highlight is already on the horizon, going beyond mere merchandise announcements.
