Here's an overview of the most important new features:

  • Graphics upgrade to 4K and 60 frames per second in TV mode; handheld mode runs at 1080p and 60 fps.
  • Revamped and smoothed-out cutscenes.
  • New battle mode “Merc Assault”: Control up to six Blades simultaneously in real-time combat.
  • New playable Blade named “MOMO”, who can switch between a light and a dark form.
  • New costumes for main characters Pyra and Mythra.

According to Nintendo, those who already own the original Switch version will receive an upgrade option to the new Switch 2 edition, instead of having to buy the game again. The digital version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released on July 30, 2026, with the physical version following on October 1, 2026.

For fans of the genre, this is a great opportunity to experience the acclaimed JRPG, set across its floating Titan worlds and their inhabitants, with the best possible visuals – or to finally catch up on it for the first time.
