Good news for everyone who has been longing for that old WoW feeling: World of Warcraft: Forever is getting its first major patch – and of all things, it's bringing back the feature that PC Gamer says the community has missed the most: intense weather effects, affectionately named “Storms.” Instead of gentle drizzle, there's now rain that almost obscures your vision, and storms that feel like true forces of nature.
What is the Storms Feature in World of Warcraft: Forever?
In the patch teaser, Blizzard shows an almost ASMR-like rain scene from Elwynn Forest: The view of Goldshire almost completely disappears behind dense rain and fog. According to PC Gamer, Blizzard is essentially cranking up the weather intensity to “level ten” in “certain” beta zones. Blizzard has not yet fully disclosed which specific areas are affected, nor whether blizzards and sandstorms will return with similar intensity.

Precisely these dynamic weather effects were gradually scaled back over the years in WoW, until Azeroth occasionally felt rather static and predictable. For many long-time players, this was a small but noticeable loss of atmosphere – so the anticipation is now great that Forever, which is already leaning heavily into nostalgia, is bringing back this piece of old WoW feeling.
There's a lot happening around Forever right now: Parallel to the Storms announcement, according to GameStar, the new player race “Skyborn,” only available to pre-orderers, is also currently sparking discussions in the community, partly due to criticism of its story integration. Together with ongoing lag issues in the beta, it's clear: Forever is currently quite polarizing – positively, as with the Storms comeback, but not exclusively so.

Blizzard has not yet announced a firm date for the full rollout. Currently, the patch is apparently first landing in the ongoing beta, which is already quite busy.
