While major franchises are once again vying for attention with new maps and seasonal content, a truly unusual project is launching today: Klang Games is releasing SEED in Early Access – an MMORPG that significantly breaks with the genre's norms.
Instead of the usual quest chains and instances, you'll get a persistent social simulation on the fictional planet Avesta. What's special: This world continues to run around the clock, even if you've long since logged out. NPCs, called "Seedlings" in SEED, are born, age, pass on possessions and traits to their descendants, and eventually die – a complete life cycle unprecedented in an MMORPG.
You yourself don't directly step into the role of a Seedling, but rather take on the role of a "Cultivator." From this position, you accompany and guide the fate of individual Seedlings and entire communities. Particularly exciting: Even social systems like crime, justice, and forms of government are intended to be shaped entirely by the players themselves, rather than being predetermined by developers.
Early Access initially launches exclusively via Klang's in-house launcher. Those who prefer to play on the familiar platform will have to be patient: A version for Steam is only announced for autumn 2026. Klang Games itself describes SEED as one of the most ambitious life-sim projects in a long time – whether the studio can keep the immense promise of a truly living, player-driven world will now have to be proven in practice.
For anyone tired of standard MMORPGs with the same old mechanics, SEED is definitely worth a look. Whether the ambitious concept ultimately translates into a polished gaming experience will be revealed in the coming weeks of Early Access.
