Sometimes, you don't have to wait for big studios for true innovation. Scarlet Deer Inn has just launched on Steam – and it brings a visual style never before seen: the backgrounds are hand-painted, but every single character frame has actually been embroidered with needle and thread. Fabric art as an animation technique, so to speak.
Behind the game is Attu Games, a Czech husband-and-wife studio that has worked on this project for a whopping five years. It tells the story of Elise, a mother of two children, who journeys through unusual, sometimes dark and frightening locations. The grim, fairy-tale setting in a medieval style resembles more of an adult picture book than a classic adventure.
Those without a gaming PC will have to wait a bit longer: console versions for Switch and Xbox Series X/S have been announced but will follow at a later date. For everyone else, Scarlet Deer Inn is available now on Steam.

Precisely because the market for indie adventures is large, Scarlet Deer Inn truly stands out with its embroidered aesthetic. If you're looking for something visually completely different, you should take a look.
