GTA role-playing has been huge for years, but until now, it ran entirely on unofficial community servers. That's changing now: Rockstar Games has announced its own official RP server called Nopixel V, calling it the “next evolution” of the role-playing community around Rockstar Games.
What is Nopixel V and why is Rockstar announcing it now?
Nopixel is not an unknown name among GTA Online players: The community-run RP server was the unofficial reference for role-playing content for years, popular with major streamers among others. With Nopixel V, Rockstar is making it an official project for the first time, bringing a format in-house that previously ran completely outside their own infrastructure. Technically, the server runs via the Rockstar Games Launcher.
Who can play on the new GTA RP server?
This is exactly where the catch lies for most fans: The launch is strictly invite-only. According to Rockstar, around 439 players have been invited, with the launch set for September 8, 2026. Anyone who hasn't received an invitation cannot simply join currently. Eurogamer also reports on a separate Closed Beta, which is designed more for spectating than active participation – so the majority of the community will likely only experience the server through streams and highlights initially.
What does this mean for the GTA community?
From our perspective, this is a clever but also risky move by Rockstar. Clever, because the studio gains direct influence over a format that had completely slipped away from the community scene – including moderation, rules, and technical stability that unofficial servers often couldn't provide. Risky, because precisely this exclusive, barely accessible launch is causing frustration rather than anticipation for many fans, just a few months before the big confirmed GTA 6 launch in November. Rockstar has so far left open whether Nopixel V will later be opened to everyone or remain a permanent exclusive showcase project.
