Nostalgia alert for anyone who still has an original Xbox gathering dust in their closet: Microsoft is officially bringing four bona fide classics from the first Xbox generation to PC. As part of the newly launched Xbox Backward Compatibility Program, Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy are now playable on PC and Windows handhelds.
Those who already own one of the games digitally on console won't have to pay again and can jump right in via the Xbox app on Windows 11. Everyone else pays around $9.99 per title in the Microsoft Store, or alternatively, all four games are also included with Xbox Game Pass.
- Up to 4x resolution scaling for sharper images on modern displays
- VSync support, as well as fullscreen and windowed modes
- Anisotropic filtering and improved anti-aliasing to combat jagged edges
- New emulation technology that allows Xbox games to run natively on Windows for the first time
- According to Xbox, achievements will be added in a later update
Xbox Vice President Jason Ronald confirmed that this marks the first official expansion of the Backward Compatibility Program to PC, and that more classic titles from the original Xbox catalog are expected to be added in the future. For the PC and handheld community, this is a clear sign: Xbox aims to further blur its platform boundaries and prevent old treasures from gathering dust.
