Neo Berlin 2087: Gamescom Trailer Confirms the Berlin Cyberpunk Game is Real

Few German indie projects have had to justify themselves as often in recent years as Neo Berlin 2087. Time and again, comment sections and forums claimed that the cyberpunk detective game from the capital was merely an asset flip or a pure tech demo for the Unreal Engine, designed to impress investors. A new gameplay trailer from Gamescom in Cologne now quite clearly dispels this suspicion: The game is running, and it's playable.

The title is being developed by the 13-person Berlin-based Elysium Game Studio and published by ByteRockers’ Games. The trailer shows players stepping into the shoes of Detective Nolan, who uncovers a bomb conspiracy in a dystopian Berlin divided into two classes. Alongside classic investigative work, the mix also includes weapon-based gameplay with bullet-time sequences, various ammunition types, and melee takedowns.

Why Was Neo Berlin 2087 Labeled a Fake for So Long?

The skepticism isn't unfounded: Since its initial announcement in 2023, the studio primarily showcased slick, cinematic trailers, but little actual first-hand gameplay. This very gap between high-gloss marketing and demonstrable game content has often led to projects ultimately never seeing the light of day – so the community's caution wasn't entirely unwarranted. With the current Gamescom material, which according to publications like GameStar was also playable in hands-on sessions, the burden of proof is now noticeably shifting in favor of the developers.

When and on Which Platforms Will Neo Berlin 2087 Be Released?

Those eager to jump in now will have to be patient: According to official statements, Neo Berlin 2087 is not expected to be released until 2028 for PC (via Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series. Until then, there's plenty of time for more trailers and, hopefully, more community-focused gameplay material for the studio to continue rebuilding lost trust.

From our perspective, this is precisely the right approach: Instead of relying solely on expensive cinematics, Elysium Game Studio truly shines when actual gameplay takes center stage. For such a small team, this is a significant sign of life – however, whether it will ultimately become a polished game can only be judged at its next major appearance.
