Shortly before the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom is doubling down on Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance: The expansion, announced for 2027, is getting its first wave of gameplay trailers, detailing for the first time how the new core mechanic “Boost Bracer” changes the combat system.
What is the new Boost Bracer in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance?
The Boost Bracer is a new Hunting Action that unlocks unique “Boosted Actions” for all 14 weapon types in the game. The principle is this: stay aggressive in combat and land hits to fill up Boost Energy. Once enough energy is accumulated, you activate the Boost via a special “Boost Driver” attack or another weapon-specific action – unlocking new combos and enhanced attacks.
How do Boosted Actions change the Great Sword?
The Great Sword leads the charge, with its Boosted Action trailer being the first released. Specifically, Capcom shows improved, partly explosive charged slashes (including a stronger “Super” version), the ability to chain multiple offset attacks together consecutively, as well as new movement options like sprinting with your weapon drawn for ongoing offset attacks. According to the announcement, Capcom plans to release new gameplay trailers for additional weapon types daily over the next two weeks leading up to the Tokyo Game Show on September 17.
What Does Ascendance Mean for Monster Hunter Wilds Players?
For everyone who has already mastered a favorite weapon and established combo routines in Monster Hunter Wilds, this is relevant: with Boosted Actions for all 14 weapon types, the combat feel is likely to change significantly when the expansion releases in 2027, regardless of which weapon you primarily play – so those who know their combos like the back of their hand will partially have to relearn them. From our perspective, it's particularly interesting that Capcom is showing off the new movesets so early and individually for each weapon, instead of bundling everything into one big reveal trailer as is usually the case – it almost feels like a slow countdown designed to keep the community excited until the Tokyo Game Show. Ascendance will be released in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
