Activision unveils its own trailer showcasing Ray Tracing, upscaling, and over 800 settings – yet in the end, the community is celebrating just one single line. For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, that line is: “Updates no longer require restarts during game boots.” Translated: After an update, the game no longer has to be forcibly restarted a second time.
What Technical Features Does Modern Warfare 4 Offer on PC?
The PC trailer primarily highlights technology and options. Key features include:
- Upscaling with AMD FSR Redstone, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, and Intel XeSS 3
- Over 800 settings for graphics, input, and interface
- Support for 1080p, 1440p, 4K, and Ultrawide monitors
- The multi-layered anti-cheat system RICOCHET, with hardware protection like TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot
You can find more details in our report on Ray Tracing, DLSS 4.5, and Competitive Presets, as well as on the PC System Requirements. The release is scheduled for October 23, 2026 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S).
Why is the Community Celebrating the Absence of Restarts, of all things?
According to GameStar, a user under the trailer on YouTube commented that an update without a forced restart is probably the best feature – the comment garnered over 1,600 upvotes. Other viewers reacted with pure jubilation. The reason: Call of Duty has been notorious for years for its “Update requires restart” screen. Players downloading the latest patch in the evening would launch the game, be greeted by the warning, close everything, and restart. Even minor playlist changes frequently triggered this. The error message became a running gag.
What Does This Mean for You as a PC Player?
From our perspective, this is a small but honest promise of quality. Less waiting time between download and your first match, less frustration before a game night with friends. There is one caveat, however: According to Activision's statements regarding so-called Data Patches, a restart should be avoided in most situations – it's not completely ruled out, for example, if a Data Patch is released while the game is already running. Whether the system functions so smoothly in live operation will only become clear after launch and the first major updates. Part of the answer already came during the PC beta, where Activision reportedly implemented fewer restart prompts. We'll keep you updated.
