Modern Warfare 4 on PC: Raytracing in All Modes, DLSS 4.5, and Ready-Made Competitive Presets

Four weeks before release, Infinity Ward is stepping up its PC game: On Tuesday, Activision, along with a new PC trailer, unveiled the technical innovations for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The short version: The PC version of the shooter offers significantly more graphics options and includes raytracing in all major modes.

What Technical Features Does Modern Warfare 4 Bring to PC?

According to the details for the PC version, the team is focusing on these points:

  • Raytracing: Advanced ray tracing in Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ, including reflections, ambient occlusion, and shadows.
  • Upscaling: At launch, the game will support NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 3.0.
  • Image Quality: Higher quality effects and volumetric rendering than on other platforms, plus support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
  • Display: Enhanced Field of View (FOV) slider and Ultrawide support.
  • Convenience: An integrated benchmark and pre-configured competitive presets, so you don't have to spend hours tweaking settings yourself.

Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, the game will be available via Steam, Battle.net, and the Xbox PC App. According to Activision, those who pre-order digitally can play the campaign as early as October 16.

What Hardware Do I Need for Modern Warfare 4?

The final system requirements for the full release depend on the configuration. For the beta, Activision has already provided values: at least a GeForce GTX 970 (alternatively, roughly a GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 470), 12 GB RAM, and 70 GB of free SSD space. A card at the level of an RTX 3060 Ti is recommended. These beta values may still change by launch, but the raytracing modes are likely to demand significantly more performance than this entry-level benchmark.

Important for anyone running older systems: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory. If you haven't activated these in your BIOS yet, you should check before launch, otherwise the game won't even be able to start.

Why Is the PC Focus So Important for the Series?

With Steam, Battle.net, and the Xbox PC App, Call of Duty has a broad presence on PC, and the community primarily expects clean options and stable performance. As our report on Double XP Tokens already showed: Infinity Ward seems to be listening more closely to community wishes before launch. From our perspective, this step is consistent: With DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, Infinity Ward covers all three major GPU camps, and ready-made competitive presets are a real convenience gain for ranked players. Whether raytracing will truly be tested in hectic multiplayer or merely shines in screenshots will only become clear with actual framerates after release.
