Roughly three weeks before its October 23rd release, Activision has officially revealed the PC system requirements for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The good news: the entry barrier is low. The bad news: a crucial detail is missing precisely from the two tiers that most of you care about.
What Hardware Do You Need for Modern Warfare 4 on PC?
Activision lists three tiers. These are the key specs according to the official table:
- Minimum: Windows 10 (64 Bit), Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i5-6600, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 970/1060, Radeon RX 470 or Arc A580, 3 GB VRAM.
- Recommended (90 FPS in Multiplayer, High Details): Windows 11, Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6600 XT or Arc B580, 8 GB VRAM.
- Raytracing (High-Quality RT in 4K with Upscaling): Windows 11, Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-10700K, 32 GB RAM, RTX 5070 Ti or Radeon RX 9070 XT, 16 GB VRAM.
For all three tiers, you'll need an SSD and 115 GB of free space. Additionally, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory. If you haven't enabled these in your BIOS yet, you should do so before launch, otherwise the game won't start.

What's Missing from Activision's Details?
For the Raytracing tier, Activision explicitly mentions 4K with upscaling. However, for Minimum and Recommended, there's no mention of a target resolution. Whether the 90 FPS with an RTX 3060 Ti is intended for Full HD or WQHD cannot be inferred from the table. This makes a difference, as there's easily a third more load on the graphics card between these two resolutions. Furthermore, there's no information on which upscaling settings should be used to achieve these target values.
From our perspective, it's frustrating, but not a dealbreaker: the hardware tiers are realistically chosen. Anyone with an RTX 3060 Ti or a comparable card will most likely achieve the mentioned 90 FPS in Full HD with high details. However, this is our assessment, not an official statement from the publisher.
What Does This Mean for Your October 23rd Launch?
Beyond the hardware, Activision highlights a few features: Shader preloading, DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3, raytracing with reflections and global illumination, as well as Ultrawide, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. An integrated benchmark is also included. With this, you can test how your PC handles the game yourself, without having to rely on tables.
You can find more on the graphics options and ready-made competitive presets in our report on raytracing, DLSS 4.5, and competitive presets. And for those already looking forward to their first matches: our article on Double XP Tokens explains how leveling will change.
Also, plan for the storage space: 115 GB is a significant amount for many systems with smaller SSDs. The download is likely to be made available before launch, but a precise time was not mentioned in the announcement.
