Marvel's Wolverine: Insomniac Explains How Logan Is Truly Meant to Feel

One day before its release on September 15, 2026, Sony extensively featured Insomniac Games on the PlayStation Blog to discuss their latest PS5-exclusive action game: Marvel’s Wolverine. The developer talk didn't focus on the game's pure brutality, but rather on how Logan, as a character, is truly meant to feel.

How Important is Gore Truly for the Wolverine Experience?

According to the developers, sheer brutality was never the primary goal. It was more important to find the right balance of violence and movement that suits Logan as a character – not just to show as much blood as possible. According to the report, Insomniac even discarded already completed combat sequences during the development process if they didn't feel “Wolverine-esque” enough. Visually, Logan was deliberately designed as a tankier, somewhat clumsier character who causes more destruction than an agile fighter like Spider-Man – the studio clearly deviated from the Spider-Man formula, opting for a more tangible, direct gameplay feel.

What Differentiates Wolverine from Insomniac's Spider-Man Games?

Unlike the open-world nature of the Spider-Man series, Marvel’s Wolverine opts for a denser, more grounded presentation with more direct interaction with the environment. According to the developers, the game aims primarily to showcase the man behind the claws: a man who has suffered and lost a great deal, yet repeatedly sacrifices everything for the people he cares about. If the game succeeds in evoking genuine empathy for Logan instead of merely celebrating action-packed violence, Insomniac believes its true goal will have been achieved. Following the recently discussed “Fart Gas” scent trail, which we previously reported on, this developer talk further emphasizes how serious Insomniac is about character development beyond curious marketing details.

From our perspective, this very focus on Logan as a broken character is more exciting than mere gore numbers – but whether the concept succeeds will only become clear when the game actually lands in players' hands tomorrow.
