How big is the world of GTA 6, really? So big that not even the developers themselves can keep track of everything. Industry journalist Jason Schreier reported this in a new video after his visit to Rockstar North in Edinburgh. The game will be released on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Why Don't Even the Developers Know All the Details About GTA 6?
According to Schreier, the team has almost doubled since Red Dead Redemption 2. Employees are given the freedom within their respective areas to implement smaller ideas and details themselves. Additionally, various Rockstar studios are working on different tasks, and everything is only brought together at the very end. Reportedly, an entire team is even dedicated solely to NPC dialogues.
Art Director Aaron Garbut confirmed this point to Schreier: “There’s no one person that has this whole thing in their head.” In German: Es gibt niemanden, der das gesamte Spiel vollständig im Kopf hat.
Does Even Rockstar's Management Not Know Everything?
Apparently not. Rob Nelson, Head of Development and Co-Studio Head at Rockstar North, told IGN something similar: During a demonstration, he was surprised by a line of dialogue where Jason pointed out a police impound lot. New content and dialogues are constantly being added, which is why he himself is repeatedly surprised.
What Does This Mean for Players?
From our perspective, this is a good sign for those who love to explore – Rockstar has always been a master at scattering random events and secrets throughout its worlds. However, it's also a classification: the statement describes the development process, not specific features, and cannot be verified until release. Despite three trailers, a Netflix insight, and several reports, we still know little about the finished game. For example, our report on the hundreds of explorable interiors shows how much there is to discover in Vice City, and you can get a behind-the-scenes look in our article about the Rockstar North studio.
