In GTA 5, many buildings had locked doors. In GTA 6, that's set to change: Rockstar developer Rob Nelson speaks of „hundreds” of small interiors that you can enter and explore. This comes from a Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier, who was given an extensive look at the game at Rockstar.
What Did Rockstar Show in the Bloomberg Report?
Nelson demonstrated various activities with protagonists Jason and Lucia. First, they visited a gym, after which he checked if a bank was suitable for a robbery. He decided against it due to the numerous guards. Instead, they went into the back room of a building, which Schreier speculated was likely a gas station. There, Nelson disabled an alarm system and stole money without alerting anyone.
Are the Interiors More Than Just Set Dressing?
The gas station example shows: At least some rooms can be actively utilized. Alarm systems can be manipulated, and money can be stolen. How many of the hundreds of locations offer such interactions is unknown. Rockstar has not provided any figures on this.
What Does This Mean for Players in Vice City?
Los Santos was huge, but apart from shops, apartments, and mission locations, there was relatively little to discover. With many accessible buildings, the world we last saw from Rockstar North's studio feels significantly more vibrant. For all those who enjoy venturing off the beaten path between missions, this is good news. We see it this way: The decisive factor will be whether there's genuine variety behind the doors, or if the rooms start to feel repetitive after a few hours. GTA 6 is set to release on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with the PC version following in 2027.
