GTA 6: Vice City Is Nearly Twice as Large as GTA 5's Los Santos

Just how massive will the map of GTA 6 actually be? Reddit user u/Haykguy went to the trouble of creating a comparison video that directly overlays the outlines of Vice City onto the map of Los Santos from GTA 5. The result: Vice City looks enormous.

According to the reconstruction, Vice City's urban area alone covers approximately 16.6 square kilometers, whereas the urban portion of Los Santos in GTA 5 is about 9.1 square kilometers. This would make Vice City nearly twice as large as Los Santos' pure urban area – and that's despite both maps offering significantly more land beyond their city limits.

How Big Will Vice City Really Be Compared to Los Santos?

It's important to know: The figures from the video do not come from an official Rockstar map, but rather from the community reconstruction of the so-called GTA 6 Mapping Project. The actual proportions could therefore still differ once Rockstar Games itself provides precise details. However, the core message fits the overall picture: Rockstar North Co-Studio Head Rob Nelson had already confirmed in the Rockstar Newswire that Vice City is approximately twice the size of Los Santos, and the suburbs even cover about eleven times more area than in GTA 5.

How Have GTA Map Sizes Evolved Over the Years?

A look back shows how much Rockstar has upped its game with each new installment. Liberty City from GTA 3 covered around 7.4 square kilometers, while with GTA 4, the city grew to approximately 16.1 square kilometers. With GTA San Andreas and its three cities – Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas – the total area jumped to about 38 square kilometers. GTA 5 upped the ante again with Los Santos and the rural Blaine County, reaching almost 76 square kilometers including its surroundings. GTA 6 is expected to continue this trend, as Leonida is set to offer significantly more area overall than just the city of Vice City.

For players, this primarily means: more routes, more exploration, more time in cars or on motorcycles. There are already plenty of unanswered questions about the current gameplay material, and the map size is likely to spark further discussions once Rockstar provides concrete figures. Until then, it remains with community estimates like this one – fans recently showed similar obsessiveness for other aspects of the game, such as when fans simply reprinted Macca the Gator from the Collector’s Edition themselves.

Officially, Rockstar Games traditionally only elaborates on technical details like the exact map size shortly before release. Until then, the community is likely to continue diligently piecing together screenshots, trailer frames, and leaks to get a clearer picture of Leonida.
