Originally, Grand Theft Auto VI was expected to be the year's most expensive game. Now, ironically, its competitors are making Rockstar's mega-release look like a real bargain in comparison. Both NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27 are asking for $149.99 for their respective top-tier versions – a full $50 more than the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6.
Specifically: The NBA 2K27 Ultra Edition, featuring Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose as a special cover athlete, costs $149.99, as does the Ultimate Plus Edition of EA Sports FC 27. GTA 6, on the other hand, remains at $99.99 even for its most expensive Ultimate Edition, with the Standard Edition available for just $79.99. For comparison: NBA 2K27 is set to release on September 4, 2026, followed by EA Sports FC 27 on September 25, 2026 – both launching before GTA 6, which is still slated for November 19, 2026.

The community promptly reacted with bitter irony: Take-Two, the parent company of both Rockstar and 2K Games, is ironically charging significantly more for its annual sports franchises than for arguably the most anticipated game of the decade. Many fans interpret this as further proof that annual sports game series, with their Ultimate Editions, have long been pushing price boundaries, while GTA 6, despite years of development and colossal scope, remains comparatively modestly priced.
Whether Rockstar's modest pricing strategy will benefit them in the long run, or if GTA 6 will ultimately become more expensive, remains to be seen – but officially, the price for November 2026 is set.
