GTA 6: Rockstar Surprisingly Releases Launch Trailer

Rockstar has struck again out of nowhere: Five weeks before release, the GTA 6 launch trailer is here. The clip is 1:30 minutes long, arrives unusually early, and primarily showcases one thing: story. GTA 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The trailer makes it clear what Rockstar is focusing on in the final sprint. Less chaos, more characters – and a few new questions.

What Does the GTA 6 Launch Trailer Show?

Jason and Lucia take center stage. Jason narrates in a voice-over that he got into trouble in the military and didn't leave on good terms – loans aren't available for people like him. He's then seen polishing a boat at Brian’s Marina until Lucia calls. According to reports from IGN and GameStar, this could be the call for his prison pickup.

  • Flashbacks or scenes with Jason in the military, including a water crossing with a unit and a helicopter jump
  • A shower scene with Jason and Lucia, where Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor – whether this is gameplay mechanic or pure story remains speculation according to IGN and GameStar
  • A shot of the "Sweat System," which was reported on earlier this week
  • No new gameplay details, but plenty of story impressions

The official description states something along these lines: When a simple heist goes wrong, Jason and Lucia find themselves on the darkest side of America's sunniest spot, caught in a criminal conspiracy spanning across the state of Leonida.

Here's the X-post sharing the launch trailer:

Which Song Is Playing in the Trailer?

Instead of licensed classics, Rockstar this time opted for "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (according to GamePro). Justice also composed the game's score. The song replaces the licensed tracks from the first two trailers – back then, Tom Petty and the Pointer Sisters were featured. According to Rockstar, it's available on all major streaming services and is part of "Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album."

What Does This Mean for PC Players and the Release?

A PC version remains unofficially announced. Rumors point to Q1 or early 2027, but PC Gamer remains skeptical – more on that in our report on the PC rumor. Notably: According to IGN, the trailer was captured on PS5, and at the start, there's a note saying "plays best on PS5." Rockstar's marketing is now in full swing, as we've seen with Rockstar's Miami campaign.

From our perspective, the trailer is a smart move: showcasing character instead of chaos five weeks before release banks on emotion and curiosity. PC Gamer also describes the tone as more reserved and cinematic than before. Those who hoped for gameplay will have to wait a little longer.
