GTA 6: Rockstar's Miami Marketing Booms – Politicians Voice Criticism

Rockstar is ramping up its GTA 6 marketing in Miami – and this is causing conflict at City Hall. With blimps, NFL advertising, and other campaigns, the November 19 launch date is approaching, but local politicians are putting on the brakes.

According to IGN, County Commissioner René Garcia has voiced criticism: He is "really uncomfortable with this whole thing" and is bothered by Miami being portrayed as a hub of crime. The impact of this statement is limited, as Rockstar's ideas for airport advertising and a revamp in Miami Beach, totaling around four million dollars, have not yet been finalized according to the report.

What is Rockstar planning in Miami for GTA 6?

  • A Goodyear blimp with a Vice City look is en route from Ohio to North Carolina and could later reach Florida.
  • The Miami Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium displayed GTA 6 advertising, including an "In for VI" animation during touchdowns.
  • A "Welcome to Vice City" sign hangs on the Kaseya Center, which Rockstar had installed for nearly a million dollars in September.
  • On November 18, the Miami Heat will play the Milwaukee Bucks on a Vice City court, wearing GTA 6 jerseys.

We have already reported on the Heat evening: Here's our report on "A Night in Vice City".

Why are politicians opposing the GTA 6 advertising?

Critics are bothered by the image: A city portrayed as a scene of violence and crime doesn't want to promote itself. Supporters, on the other hand, hope for more tourism and revenue. According to Miami journalist Joel Franco, an official doubts that the deals will be completed on time – the start was expected for October 15.

What does this mean for the GTA 6 launch?

For players, nothing changes regarding the release for now. However, the marketing demonstrates the massive scale Rockstar is planning for the November 19 launch. From our perspective, the dispute is more about generating attention than a real risk: The more Vice City is talked about, the better for Rockstar. It remains exciting to see if the airport billboards will actually materialize. More information about the game can be found on the official GTA 6 website.
