Important note: This is a rumor that has NOT yet been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two.
The PC version of GTA 6 has not yet been officially announced. Nevertheless, GamesBeat claims to already know a date: According to reports, Rockstar is planning the PC release for the first quarter of 2027. The portal cites four anonymous sources as its basis. IGN and Eurogamer picked up the report on October 13.
What exactly is Rockstar reportedly planning for PC?
According to the report, GTA 6 will run on PC just a few months after the console version. The console version for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is expected to launch on November 19, 2026. A PC launch in Q1 2027 would therefore follow only about two to five months later. Rockstar and Take-Two have not yet commented on the report.
IGN also points to a possible connection with the multiplayer: Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said last month that the online mode, which fans are already calling “GTA Online 2,” is supposed to launch next year. Officially, Rockstar has not yet confirmed an online mode or its name.
Why would an early PC launch be so surprising?
Rockstar has always taken its time with new releases. Red Dead Redemption, GTA 5, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all came to PC after their console counterparts. With GTA 5, there were about a year and a half between the console launch in September 2013 and the PC release in April 2015. Many had therefore expected a similarly long waiting period.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg in May that Rockstar “always starts on console” because such a release is judged by how well it serves the core players. At the same time, he emphasized a year ago that the industry is moving towards PC. Both statements fit with a release that follows after only a short interval.
What does this mean for PC gamers?
From our perspective, the report is plausible, but not proof. Anonymous sources are often involved with Rockstar, and especially when it comes to dates, a lot can change until the very end. PC gamers should therefore neither rely on Q1 2027 nor buy hardware specifically for it yet. System requirements and performance are also open questions: Rockstar has not even confirmed the frame rates and resolution of the console versions yet. What is certain is that any PC version could likely squeeze out more performance, provided the machine is powerful enough.
For us, the exciting question remains whether the PC launch will coincide with the multiplayer release. That would explain why Rockstar is waiting for a shorter period this time. However, that is also not confirmed.
