Rockstar Games is in a state of exception these days: first, the major Netflix special “GTA VI: An Extended Look” featuring new gameplay material is running, and now even the developers themselves are spilling the beans – delivering one of the most curious anecdotes of the entire GTA 6 hype phase.
Italian YouTuber Mike ShowSha was allowed an exclusive visit to Rockstar ahead of the big Netflix presentation. During his visit, developers at the studio apparently told him with a wink that real fans had indeed measured oxygen levels around the studio's headquarters – hoping to draw conclusions about the next trailer.
What Exactly Did Fans Measure at Rockstar?
The story dates back several months: in June 2026, a Reddit user named Then-Pomegranate-625 caused a stir, claiming to have positioned themselves in the bushes outside the Rockstar North headquarters in Edinburgh. There, according to their own statement, they not only measured the oxygen content of the air but also counted discarded cigarette butts and observed noise and activity levels around the building. Their thesis: if the oxygen level noticeably drops after 5 PM – they claimed to have measured values from around 20.3 to 20.04 percent – a particularly large number of employees are working overtime, which they interpreted as a possible indication of an upcoming trailer.
How Did the GTA Community React to the Revelation?
The stunt already sparked mixed reactions in the summer. The fan portal GTABase openly described the behavior as “unnecessary and dangerously obsessive.” Other fans, however, celebrated the detective work as an expression of sheer anticipation for the game's next big appearance. The fact that even Rockstar employees themselves now apparently know the story and recount it with a wink shows how much the studio has registered the sometimes bizarre dedication of its fanbase – and has long taken it with humor.
From our perspective, the episode primarily shows one thing: hardly any game in recent years has generated such a pronounced level of anticipation as GTA 6. First, the exclusive Netflix trailer broke records with over 31 million views in its first week, and now even the mere waiting for more material leads to curious fan actions that even the developers themselves are talking about. This very hype is likely the reason why Rockstar willingly retells the story: it's free, viral advertising – entirely without its own marketing budget.
