Rockstar has really gone all out for GTA 6 – at least when it comes to merchandise. For €399.99, you can get the limited ‘The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection,’ a collector’s box that doesn’t actually include the game. While it sounds like a bad joke at first, it makes sense when you look at what’s actually inside.
What's Inside the GTA 6 Collector’s Box?
Rockstar packs a variety of fan items into the box: a collectible figure of Macca the Alligator, a shoulder bag, a snapback cap, a magnetic mirror, a bar spoon, a pin set, a shot glass, a keychain, stickers, and a poster. In total, eleven fan items end up in the box – just no game disc and no download code for GTA 6 itself. Anyone who wants the box must purchase the game separately, as stated on Rockstar's official GTA 6 page. Those who regularly browse the official Rockstar Store already know: collector's items have rarely been particularly cheap here.
Why Are the Sunglasses, of All Things, the Real Price Driver?
A look at the pricing quickly reveals where the money goes: The included Oakley Frogskins in matte black with Prizm Sapphire lenses and a pink GTA VI logo are a genuine collaboration with the eyewear manufacturer – and, according to market prices, they individually cost over €200. This fashion item alone accounts for well over half of the box's total price. The remaining fan items, by comparison, seem almost like an afterthought.
From our perspective, this is cleverly calculated, yet also quite blunt: Rockstar is essentially selling a pair of designer sunglasses with a few extras thrown in, rather than primarily a game collectible. The community’s reaction is divided – while some fans celebrate the glasses as a genuine accessory, others criticize that for €400, not even a copy of the game is included. However, anyone who remembers previous Collector's Editions for GTA 5 knows: Rockstar has never given away its merchandise for free.
If you're already considering how much time you want to spend in Vice City, you can find more in our article about whether you'd prefer to play as Lucia or Jason. Whether the €400 is worth it for you, however, remains a matter of taste – especially if you already have a whole collection of sunglasses in your closet.
Secure the Collector's Box in time if you really want the sunglasses – according to initial reports, scalpers are already interested in the limited set.
