Scarcely has Pokémon embarked on its next big adventure, and the first concrete leaks are already circulating. Leaked card images for Pokémon Winds and Waves are said to reveal some genuine novelties for the series.
The biggest buzz is about an alleged Dark-Type Gym Leader said to appear early in the game. This would be a first: in over 30 years of Pokémon history, there has never been a Dark-type Gym so early in a game. By process of elimination, the leaked images also reportedly reveal the types of the Elite Four: Electric, Water, Bug, and Dragon are being discussed as their specializations. Here, too, Electric as a dedicated Elite Four type would be a novelty for the series.
Where does the leak originate? A single, unnamed datamining source reportedly first disseminated the card images. Notably: Several independent, established gaming editorial offices have since picked up and contextualized the images independently, which gives the whole thing a bit more weight than a typical forum post. Nevertheless, it remains unconfirmed speculation for the time being.
Nintendo and Game Freak have not yet commented on the reports, as is typical with leaks of this kind. Whether the Dark-Type Gym Leader and the new Elite Four lineup will actually make it into the final game will only become clear with further official information.
