Final Fantasy 7 Revelation – Director Expects Over 100 Hours of Playtime for Completionists

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Naoki Hamaguchi has given IGN a first, very rough idea of how much time fans should set aside to complete the remake trilogy – at least if they want to see everything. Anyone who wants to examine and complete every asset and every element of the game will "easily reach over a hundred hours," Hamaguchi stated literally. This comment was made in the same interview context where the director had recently garnered attention.

How Long Does It Take to Play Through Final Fantasy 7 Revelation?

Hamaguchi did not provide an official, exact playtime for the main story alone. His phrasing explicitly referred to completionists who delve into every last detail of the entire game – from side quests to collectibles and optional areas. For this approach, the director estimates "easily over a hundred hours," which would make the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy one of the most extensive RPGs in the coming years, should this estimate be confirmed in the final product.

What Makes Completion So Demanding?

As a reason for the enormous scope, Hamaguchi implicitly cited the sheer volume of content that needs to be depicted as the final chapter of the story: open areas, numerous subplots, and a final act that concludes the events surrounding Sephiroth's return. The director recently also confirmed the game's massive storage requirements – in our report on the game's massive storage requirements, you can read why the installation on PS5 and PC is expected to take up around 200 GB. Both statements combined paint a picture of a title that apparently makes no compromises in terms of scope and level of detail.

For context: Even the first two parts of the trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, were considered surprisingly extensive for a single chapter of the original story and offered far more side content than the 1997 original. Should Hamaguchi's estimate of over 100 hours for completionists be confirmed, Revelation, as the conclusion of the reinterpretation, would consistently continue this trend – and fans who truly want to experience the journey down to the last detail would need to bring a corresponding amount of time.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be released on April 8, 2027, for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Hamaguchi left open how much time will be needed for a pure playthrough of the main story – more precise information on this is likely to follow closer to the release.
