EA Sports FC 27: Early Access Trial Launched – Initial Reviews Are Mixed-Positive

EA has kicked off the next testing phase: Since September 18, 2026, the EA Sports FC 27 Early Access Trial has been available for all EA Play members on Xbox and PC, as reported by Xbox Wire in an official post. Players who subsequently purchase the full version will carry over their complete progress from the trial phase into the final game – a point particularly relevant for Career Mode and Ultimate Team fans, as started squads won't be lost.

How long is the EA Sports FC 27 Trial?

The trial is limited to ten hours of gameplay and is aimed at subscribers of EA Play or EA Play Pro. Within this timeframe, virtually all key modes can be played, including Career Mode, Ultimate Team, and the new social mode The Grounds. EA Play members also receive up to ten percent discount on the purchase of the full version, as well as on FC Points and other digital EA purchases. Those who decide to purchase will continue exactly from where the trial ended.

What's New with The Grounds Mode?

At the heart of this year's innovations is The Grounds, a social hub where players can meet and recruit new club members and compete against each other in various football formats – from quick kickabouts and 2v2 duels to pure 11v11 Clubs tournaments. British trade magazine Video Games Chronicle (VGC) calls The Grounds the first truly major new mode in the series in years and praises its potential for more social interaction off the beaten path. Criticism is more pronounced elsewhere: according to VGC, the Ultimate Team mode has received one of the least impactful updates in recent years – fresh content is largely absent here.

Even IGN paints a mixed picture in its review. The revamped tactical system, which clearly explains real football formations, is highlighted positively. The major point of criticism remains the AI of computer-controlled opponents: according to IGN, pathing and defensive logic continue to break down, especially on higher difficulty levels, for example when CPU defenders refuse a 50:50 challenge or move inexplicably – a problem that has plagued the series for over a decade.

Editorial Note: The ten-hour trial structure has become an established model for the annual FC series – what's new, above all, is that progress is seamlessly carried over upon purchase, which lowers the risk for those undecided. Editorially, it shows: EA Sports FC 27 makes progress in social and strategic depth, but leaves essential everyday problems like the CPU AI untouched. Those looking to switch over because of Ultimate Team shouldn't expect a big leap; but those interested in social modes and tactical depth will find real arguments for making the change.
