Fans of cosmic horror are in for a treat today: Cosmic Fear, a first-person horror game in the style of H.P. Lovecraft, is now available for PC.
What is Cosmic Fear about?
Cosmic Fear was developed entirely by a single person: Italian solo developer Alessandro Guzzo. The game utilizes Unreal Engine 5 and photogrammetry technology to create especially realistic, grim environments. Gameplay-wise, Cosmic Fear blends survival elements, environmental puzzles, and stealth sections against dynamic enemy AI in foggy, oppressive settings. Thematically, the title clearly delves into the Lovecraftian cosmos: cosmic horror, insane cults, and beings that transcend human understanding.
Guzzo is no stranger to the horror niche: He previously released “The Land of Pain” and “The Alien Cube”, two other Lovecraft-inspired games, and won a CryEngine GOTY Award in 2021. Cosmic Fear is therefore his third game in this genre.
Where can I buy Cosmic Fear and how much does it cost?
The title is available starting today, September 9, 2026, on both the Steam Store and the Epic Games Store for PC. If you want to get a taste beforehand, there's also a free demo available on Steam.
Initial reactions are already coming in: The Dutch portal GAMESTIC has published its first review score right on time for the release. If you're still unsure before buying whether the visuals and gameplay fit together, you can find a first independent impression there, beyond the official trailer.
Solo developer projects in the horror genre have repeatedly provided surprises in recent years – think of titles like Iron Lung or Fears to Fathom, which found large communities despite small teams. Whether Cosmic Fear can make a similar impact largely depends on how well the technically elaborate visuals are combined with an engaging gameplay experience – for solo projects, this is often the biggest hurdle. Those who appreciate handcrafted, atmospheric horror without a big studio behind them should keep an eye on this title.
