While all eyes are on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red is working behind the scenes on at least one other, completely unannounced project. Codename: Hadar. And according to recent statements from the studio, that's far from all.
What is Project Hadar from CD Projekt Red?
According to an IGN report, CD Projekt Red is currently noticeably expanding the team for the project internally dubbed “Hadar” – more than 30 developers are already working on it, and according to a studio Vice President, that number is expected to reach around 50 by the end of the year. What exactly Hadar entails has not been officially confirmed. What is clear, however, is that it's a standalone, new project and not another spin-off of The Witcher or Cyberpunk.
What Other Mystery Games is CD Projekt Red Planning?
In line with this, the studio has confirmed to PC Gamer that it actually has several so-called “mystery projects” in the pipeline simultaneously. A release is explicitly not imminent – CD Projekt Red emphasized that the current priority clearly lies with The Witcher 4 and the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077. The mystery projects are running more as a long-term foundation for the period thereafter.
Why is This Still a Big Deal for Fans?
Historically, CD Projekt Red has always taken its time with official announcements – The Witcher 4 itself was only revealed after it had been in internal development for a long time. The fact that the studio is now actively building up staff for a completely new, unannounced project indicates that CD Projekt Red wants to grow beyond its currently known brands, rather than permanently relying solely on Witcher and Cyberpunk. For players, this specifically means: In the short term, nothing changes in the release schedule for The Witcher 4, but in the long term, at least one completely new IP from CD Projekt Red can be expected.
