The next Call of Duty installment is approaching: Activision has announced the official beta dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Those who pre-ordered can dive in from August 21st to 25th on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The open beta for everyone then kicks off from August 28th to September 1st – and will run for the first time on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Particularly frustrating for Xbox Game Pass subscribers: Unlike previous years, there will be NO special early access for them this time. Anyone who wants to play must either pre-order or wait until the open beta. Whether this is due to availability on the Switch 2 or simply Activision's desire to strengthen pre-order incentives remains to be seen.
Content-wise, the beta introduces a brand-new mode: “Kill Block” features dynamically changing map sections that transform during the match and places a strong emphasis on close-quarters combat. For those who prefer watching over playing themselves, you can catch it live beforehand: At the “Call of Duty: NEXT” event on August 21st, Activision will showcase extensive gameplay footage for the first time and provide further insights into the multiplayer.
Modern Warfare 4 is thus well on its way to becoming one of the major fall release titles of 2026. While there's still some time until the beta, the dates are now officially confirmed in black and white. We'll keep you updated as soon as more details about maps, weapons, and seasonal content emerge.
