At Meta Connect 2026, there was a real surprise on stage – just not the one many Ace Attorney fans had been hoping for. Instead of a new main installment, Capcom, together with developer AMATA Games, announced Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR. The game brings the title, originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, as a genuine VR experience to Meta's platforms.
What Does Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR Specifically Offer?
Players can choose to step into the roles of Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, and Athena Cykes, investigating crime scenes this time in three-dimensional space. Hand tracking allows players to present evidence and directly target witnesses to catch them in contradictions – and thanks to voice control, a loud “Objection!” is enough to make an impact in the courtroom. The game will be released in 2027 for Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3/3S, and the newly unveiled Meta VR headset, with language support for German, English, French, and Japanese, among others.
Why Is the Community's Reaction to the Announcement So Divided?
The reason for the mixed reception lies in the series' long drought: The last genuine new main installment was almost a decade ago, and since then there have primarily been remasters, ports, and minor content updates. Accordingly, many fans had high hopes that Capcom would finally showcase a new, standalone Ace Attorney adventure at Meta Connect. Instead, there is now a VR remake of an already familiar case from 2013. In the comments under the announcement, disappointment is seen more often than excitement – one user summed it up with the words “Ok... not the announcement I wanted.” From our perspective, the criticism is understandable, even if the VR concept with hand tracking and voice control itself sounds quite original: Anyone who has been waiting for a true sequel for years will understandably not be fully appeased by this. Whether this will change with further announcements remains to be seen – Capcom has not yet commented on a possible new main installment.
