The Blood of Dawnwalker: First Major October Update Brings Easier Difficulty

Players who've been primarily struggling with the combat in The Blood of Dawnwalker have reason to celebrate: Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has announced the first major patch for the vampire RPG, set to arrive in early October 2026. The update's centerpiece is a completely new, easier difficulty level, complemented by revised combat targeting and significantly easier ways to escape from enemies.

What's Changing in The Blood of Dawnwalker's New Difficulty Setting?

Previously, the “Story” mode was the easiest difficulty level in the game. That changes with the October update: the old Story mode will be renamed and moved up one tier, while a brand-new, even more relaxed setting takes its place. According to Tomaszkiewicz, this new setting is specifically designed for players who want to experience the story of the vampire hunter Coen without having to intensively engage with the combat system. After the patch, a total of five difficulty levels will be available, ranging from the new, combat-light entry-level to the challenging “Duelist” mode for fans of intense skirmishes.

  • A new, easier difficulty setting that significantly reduces the focus on combat.
  • The previous “Story” mode will be renamed and slightly elevated – offering a total of five difficulty levels, from relaxed to “Duelist”.
  • Revised targeting system for more precise, less clunky combat.
  • Easier escapes: Stunned enemies will remain stunned for longer, as it will now take three hits to prematurely break their stun.

Why is Rebel Wolves Overhauling the Combat and Escape System?

Alongside the new difficulty setting, the team is also refining the overall combat experience. The targeting system, which previously caused frustration when locking onto enemies in chaotic situations, is being overhauled. Players looking to escape from combat will also find it easier to do so in the future: enemies will remain defenseless for longer after being stunned, as Tomaszkiewicz states that it will now take three additional hits to prematurely break their stun. This gives players more breathing room to withdraw from sticky situations, rather than having to fight every skirmish to the bitter end.

The fact that Konrad Tomaszkiewicz himself is making these adjustments carries significant weight: the Polish developer served as Game Director for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and, after his tenure at CD Projekt Red, co-founded Rebel Wolves with other industry veterans. The Blood of Dawnwalker is their debut project and has been available since early September 2026 on platforms like Steam. Since its release, players have primarily grappled with clunky tutorials, terse NPCs, as well as stutters and occasional shader crashes – a first minor patch already addressed some of these issues, while work on the technical problems continues. The announced October patch demonstrates that Rebel Wolves is clearly paying close attention to community feedback and is prepared to even re-evaluate fundamental design decisions, such as difficulty.
