October is rolling out the big guns on Steam: With Steam as the launch platform, two of gaming history's biggest series are set to collide this week. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, 2026, with Final Fantasy Resonance arriving a day earlier on October 22. Additionally, there are several exciting new releases beyond the major titles.
What's New in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4?
After the heavily criticized third installment of the reboot series, Infinity Ward is once again at the helm, supported by almost all Activision studios including Raven Software, Treyarch, and Beenox. The conflict shifts to the Korean Peninsula, where a North Korean invasion brings the world to the brink. In the campaign, you'll play as the young South Korean soldier Private Park, while Captain Price wages his own war after General Shepherd's assassination. Missions will take you to Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai.
At launch, multiplayer will feature twelve new 6v6 maps, alongside larger battlegrounds for infantry and vehicle combat. The extraction mode, DMZ, returns as the third pillar: In the Hajin exclusion zone, you'll hunt for loot solo or in a squad, expanding your Forward Operating Base between deployments. We've summarized the exact start times in our overview of Early Access, DMZ launch, and release times.
What Other Games Are Releasing on Steam This Week?
According to GameStar, Final Fantasy Resonance is the first installment in the series to adopt the HD-2D style of Octopath Traveler. It launches on October 22 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and Switch 2. Beyond these two heavyweights, these titles are worth a look:
- Athanasia (Early Access): A horror-shooter and immersive sim set in a South American research facility overrun by dinosaurs. Instead of constant gunfire, stealth, hacking, and traps are key.
- Nomad Drive (Early Access): Build out a camper van and drive solo or in four-player co-op through a procedurally generated post-apocalyptic world.
- We Were Here Tomorrow: A new installment in the co-op puzzle series, where you and your partner see different things and communicate via walkie-talkie.
Is This Week's Steam Launch Worth It For You?
From our perspective, this week is unusually packed. If you plan to dive into both major releases, you'll need to allocate both time and disk space, as two AAA titles within 24 hours is quite a commitment. Early Access titles like Athanasia and Nomad Drive, on the other hand, are more for the curious who want to follow their development.
