The main event doesn't kick off until October 23rd, but for a segment of the player base, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 begins today. Those who have digitally pre-ordered get earlier access – and there are staggered launch dates. Here's an overview so you don't miss anything.
When Exactly Does Modern Warfare 4 Launch?
According to PC Gamer, here's the schedule:
- October 16th: Early Access to the Campaign – digital pre-orders only. Activision has not yet specified an exact time.
- October 20th: Early Access to DMZ, also for digital pre-orders only. Officially, no time has been given, but industry insiders are predicting 10 AM Pacific Time – which would be 7 PM for us.
- October 23rd: Full launch for everyone, at midnight local time. This applies worldwide, so you don't have to wait for other time zones.
Important: The DMZ unlock time is a prediction and not a guarantee. We'll keep you updated as soon as Activision announces anything official.
How Much Storage Space Does Modern Warfare 4 Require?
On PC, plan for around 115 GB. The preload is already live, so you can kick off the download now and won't have to wait for hours on launch day. You can find the official system requirements on the game's Steam page. The game will be released for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 – last-gen consoles are being left out.
Is Pre-ordering Worth It Just for Early Access?
From our perspective, it depends on what you're planning. The campaign is best played through at your own pace without spoilers, and a few days' head start won't make it any better or worse. More exciting is the DMZ advantage: the extraction mode thrives on squads getting accustomed to it and learning the map – those who get in early will have a real knowledge advantage over the rest at launch. So, if you were going to pre-order anyway, you get a bonus here. If you're unsure, you can safely wait until October 23rd and see the community's initial impressions.
