SNL Skit: Jason and Link Argue Over GTA 6 and Zelda – Fans Are Not Impressed

It's officially mainstream now: The creators of Saturday Night Live have packed GTA 6 and the Zelda remake into a sketch. In the current episode of SNL Season 52, Jason Duval and Link sat at the Weekend Update desk, arguing over who has the better game.

What was the SNL sketch about?

The sketch lasted about six minutes. Marcello Hernández played Jason, and Mikey Day took on Link. They were joined by Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che. According to IGN, the joke primarily revolved around clichés: Jason waving an RPG around and stealing cars non-stop, while Link yells about puzzles and insists his tunic is not a dress. Jost opened the segment by saying the two releases were being called the 'Barbenheimer of video games.'

The episode was hosted by Dakota Johnson, with musical guest Turnstile. A surprise appearance by Taylor Swift was also part of the show.

How did the gaming community react to the skit?

Mostly mixed to annoyed. Many GTA fans turn up their noses at Jason's costume, which consists only of a bloody bandage and a Hawaiian shirt – it looks more like a last-minute Halloween outfit. In contrast, Link's outfit receives praise: the tunic is surprisingly close to the look of the Ocarina of Time remake, including pointed ears and a wig. As for the jokes, many agree that they've heard similar ones 20 years ago. However, there are also voices that found the sketch quite okay, even though Jason as a character is still largely unknown.

Why is November 2026 suddenly in the spotlight?

Because almost all other publishers have withdrawn from the month to avoid competing against GTA 6. The big exception is the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which will be released on November 5th for the Nintendo Switch 2. GTA 6 follows on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Since one game does not run on the other's console, the competition is less fierce than the sketch suggests – yet many of you will have to decide this month where your time and money will go.

What does the SNL appearance mean for GTA 6?

From our perspective, the sketch primarily shows one thing: GTA 6 is no longer just a gamer-exclusive topic. When a US late-night show parodies Jason as a character before the game is even out, the attention is enormous – and that's despite the humor being quite stale.
