Rayman Legends Retold: Ubisoft Delays Completed Game Just Before Release

Rayman Legends Retold was actually supposed to hit shelves in a few weeks. Now Ubisoft has unexpectedly delayed the game – despite previously stating it was already finished.

When Is Rayman Legends Retold Actually Launching Now?

Instead of October 1st, the revamped re-release of the Switch 2-exclusive platformer will now arrive on December 3rd. Despite the delay, Ubisoft is sticking to the schedule for the first public gameplay trailer and initial press impressions: Both are still set to follow on September 22nd as originally planned – only the actual release date has been pushed back.

Why Is Ubisoft Delaying an Already Completed Game?

Particularly noteworthy: According to Ubisoft Montpellier, Rayman Legends Retold had already reached “Gold” status, meaning it was technically ready for mass production. As a reason for the delay, the studio cites additional polishing needs – stating they want to use the remaining time to improve the final details rather than delivering a game that doesn't quite meet their own standards.

Is This Becoming a Pattern for Ubisoft?

Last-minute delays just weeks before the release date are not an isolated incident for Ubisoft recently. Just a few weeks ago, we reported on another blunder with Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete Edition. Taken on its own, a delay in favor of more polish is initially good news for game quality – but when it comes so last-minute that it affects builds that are already finished and “gold,” it raises more questions about internal scheduling and quality management than about the actual game quality itself. For pre-order customers, this specifically means: Anyone who was looking forward to October 1st will have to scrap their release day plans and be patient until December.
