Bethesda has released Patch 1.1 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2. The patch aims to fix numerous crashes and minor glitches that have caused frustration since its launch on August 11, 2026. The problem: According to initial player reports, the update has simultaneously noticeably worsened the image quality.

What Issues Does Patch 1.1 Fix in Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2?

Released on September 17, 2026, Update 1.1 for the Switch 2 version in the Nintendo eShop primarily focuses on stability. Here's a summary of the most important changes in our own words:

  • Fixed a crash when quickly enchanting at the Altar of Enchanting or Altar of Spell Making
  • Fixed a crash when opening or navigating the player map
  • Fixed a crash when switching to the third-person camera
  • Fixed a crash when entering the Fighters Guild in Cheydinhal during the quest “Mystery at Harlun’s Watch”
  • Fixed a crash when fast-traveling after exiting Castle Bravil
  • Fixed a crash when waiting in the Oblivion Plane of Kvatch
  • Fixed a crash caused by repeatedly casting self-created Bound spells in combination with the wait function
  • Corrected erroneous equipping of random items when casting “Blessing of Talos” during the quest “Umaril the Unfeathered”
  • Fixed player character stuttering when moving in shallow water under a Water Walking effect

What New Graphics Issues Are Players Reporting After the Update?

Shortly after the rollout, complaints surged on Reddit regarding a noticeably blurrier display – in both docked and handheld modes. Specifically mentioned are increased blurring and ghosting, noticeably reduced sharpness and fewer visible details, as well as flickering and instability in certain scenes. Online speculation suggests a problem with the DLSS implementation could be behind it, but this has not been confirmed yet. Bethesda has since responded via their official support page, stating that they are currently investigating the matter – however, a cause or a date for a corrective patch has not yet been announced.

What Can Players Do Until the Next Patch?

For Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2, this isn't the first setback: Already at its August release, Digital Foundry, among others, had criticized the rather shaky performance of the console version. From our perspective, the current situation primarily highlights how fragile the remaster's technical foundation on the new console still appears to be. Those who are currently particularly sensitive to the muddier visuals can do little but wait for now – the Switch 2 system software does not offer a downgrade to the previous version. It's advisable to regularly check Bethesda's official support page and submit your own bug reports so that the full extent of the problem can be accurately assessed. Until a fix arrives, the only option is to live with the slightly softer image quality or temporarily switch to another platform, if available.
