Wallhacks have been a nuisance for Call of Duty players for years. With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Activision aims to tackle the problem at its root. In a new video released on official social media channels, Activision and Infinity Ward introduce the "Server Culling" system. Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
How Does Server Culling Work in Modern Warfare 4?
Previously, servers shared the positions of all players with clients, even if an opponent was behind a wall. Wallhacks exploit precisely this information, reading it and displaying it. With Server Culling, Infinity Ward is integrating "Occlusion Layers" into the maps. The server will then only send data about enemies you can actually see.
- Concealed enemies will not be reported to the client at all.
- The system will cover all multiplayer maps at launch.
- DMZ, the Combat Outpost mode, and Warzone are also set to benefit.
- It works in addition to existing anti-cheat measures across all platforms.
Activision's core message: "Cheat software cannot reveal information it never receives."
How Effective Will This Really Be Against Cheaters?
This approach is strong against pure wallhacks because it withholds data directly at the server level. However, aimbots and other cheats will remain unaffected. Activision expects the system to "disrupt the cheat market" but also announces that they won't rest on their laurels. This means: the cat-and-mouse game will continue.
The developers have recently made improvements elsewhere. We've summarized how Modern Warfare 4 performs on PC in our overview of the PC system requirements.
What Does This Mean for You as a Player?
You don't need to configure anything; the system runs server-side. From our perspective, this is a sensible step, as long as the occlusion layers don't cause disadvantages such as delayed enemy pop-ins around corners. Whether it works flawlessly in practice will only become clear after launch.
