Spoiler Warning: This article reveals specific details about missions and battles in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign. If you want to play without prior knowledge, it's best to stop reading here.
One life, zero mistakes: A player claims to have already conquered the YOLO mode of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign. According to IGN, Reddit user Lost-Equivalent2352 reported their success. This is a single player's report and has not been officially confirmed.
What is YOLO Mode in Modern Warfare 4?
YOLO is the campaign's hardest game mode. It features realistic damage, and you only have one life. If you die, you're sent back to the start of the game. It's unlocked once you've completed the campaign on any difficulty. The only reward is a Calling Card, nothing more.
How Did the Player Conquer YOLO Mode?
It took three attempts and a total of around 40 hours. The successful run alone was about 20 hours long. Here are the player's tips:
- Wait behind cover for extended periods until AI allies clear out enemies.
- Use flashbangs and grenades to eliminate stragglers.
- Maintain distance, as this demands precision and recoil control.
- Play with mouse and keyboard: He deems YOLO impossible with a controller.
The night mission "Retreat," focusing on the fall of Hajin and the withdrawal of South Korean troops, was particularly challenging. Bullets fly everywhere, civilians seek cover, and friendly fire counts as a death, making grenades a no-go there. He called his success "pure luck." Also tough: the dual combat as Price against two of his former allies.
Is the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Worth It?
IGN provisionally awarded the campaign 8 out of 10 points in its review-in-progress. According to IGN, the melee system feels a bit like John Wick but provides little feedback for parries. This is precisely what could be frustrating in YOLO mode, where one mistake costs everything. You can read more about this in our overview of what the first campaign reviews say.
From our perspective, this case demonstrates how Call of Duty is enhancing its campaigns for hardcore fans today. A 20-hour run for a mere Calling Card is more about prestige than an actual reward. Those who wish to attempt it should have plenty of patience and let their AI companions do the fighting. Multiplayer launches on October 23rd; you can find all release times at a glance here. The campaign itself is by Activision.
