Modern Warfare 4: DMZ Story Missions for Solo Players Seemingly Now Private

Since the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, DMZ fans have been demanding PvE servers. Now, there seems to be a compromise: the story missions in the extraction mode have apparently become private for solo players – however, Infinity Ward has not officially announced this.

What Has Changed in DMZ Story Missions?

At launch, even with a smaller player count, you could encounter other players in story missions, including unwanted PvP engagements. According to Eurogamer, who conducted their own tests, solo players now apparently remain alone on their first attempt: no other players in the “Recent Players” list and no activated UAV towers or SAM sites, which are otherwise common in PvPvE matches. Players first noticed the change on Reddit.

What Are the Catches of This Change?

  • The privacy only applies to solo players.
  • It only takes effect during the first run of a mission; replays are significantly less forgiving.
  • There are indications that you might still encounter others in story missions.

What Does This Mean for the DMZ Community?

Our assessment: The change highlights how divided the community is. Many want to experience the mode without other players, while Infinity Ward officially sticks to the PvPvE concept. Making story missions a calmer entry point benefits newcomers, but it doesn't replace a true PvE mode. As long as Infinity Ward doesn't confirm anything, this behavior could change again at any time – so don't rely on it.
