Rarely has a Call of Duty received so much praise on Steam: According to SteamDB (as of October 20, 2026, 08:07 AM), Modern Warfare 4 stands at "Very Positive" with 89 percent – from over 3,900 reviews. This makes it the highest-rated CoD since the first Black Ops from 2010, which also achieved 89 percent.
How Does Modern Warfare 4 Compare to its Predecessors?
The figures from the GameStar comparison clearly show the difference:
- Modern Warfare 4 (2026): 89 Percent
- Black Ops 7 (2025): 37 Percent
- Black Ops 6 (2024): 46 Percent
- Modern Warfare 3 (2023): 48 Percent
- Modern Warfare 2 (2022): 47 Percent
- Cold War (2020): 78 Percent
- Black Ops 3 (2015): 85 Percent
Why is the Campaign So Well Received?
Players primarily praise the high pace and varied presentation. One user writes that they "weren't bored for a second." If you want to know more about how the professional press viewed the campaign after finishing the story, you can find it in our report on the Steam reviews for the campaign.
What Does This Mean for the Multiplayer?
Caution is advised here. So far, only the campaign has been playable for pre-order customers since October 16. Today, the DMZ mode is expected to launch as the first part of the multiplayer in Early Access. Our assessment: The rating almost exclusively refers to the story. Historically, reviews can change once many players experience the multiplayer, balance, and servers. So, this number is a strong start, but not yet a final judgment on the overall package.
