Marvel Rivals steps up its game: As of today, July 30, 2026, 9 AM UTC (2 AM PDT / 5 AM EDT), the new PvE mode “Path to Doomsday: Age of Ultron” is live – and with no downtime. If you have Marvel Rivals open right now, you can jump straight in.
Developer NetEase Games is thus continuing the major “Path to Doomsday” campaign, which has been guiding the Marvel Rivals community towards Doctor Doom for weeks. This time, however, Ultron takes center stage.
What's in the New Age of Ultron Mode
In this PvE mode, you step into the shoes of the Avengers from the 2015 movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and battle your way through two locations: the Avengers Tower and Ultron’s Data Space. The main adversaries are Ultron's Sentries. What's special is that NetEase has produced its own cutscenes and had the movie dialogue completely re-recorded by the Marvel Rivals voice cast, rather than simply recycling original quotes from the film.
In addition to the new mode, the update also brings a good amount of cosmetics and minor adjustments. Here’s an overview of the most important points:
- New Ultron skin in the “Age of Ultron” look as part of the event
- Scarlet Witch costume in Age of Ultron design, following one day later on July 31
- Times Square Photo Spots: At the famous scene walls in front of the Avengers Gift Shop, you can take group photos with NPCs and immediately earn 100 Units for doing so
- Bugfix for Thor: An issue where he could be unintentionally healed by teammates via the Ragnarok Rebirth team-up revival, leading to incorrect defeat scores, has been resolved
- Bugfix for Peni Parker: The Rocket Network team-up could incorrectly track Rocket Raccoon's B.R.B. revival data – this is now fixed
- Bugfix for Hela: Emojis and emotes became unusable after certain abilities – also resolved
- Further minor bugfixes for Cloak & Dagger and Jubilee
Why This Is More Than Just Another Cosmetic Event
From our perspective, the Age of Ultron mode is a good example of how NetEase Games utilizes its MCU license without simply replaying old movie scenes. The fact that entirely new dialogues were recorded with the game's own voice cast shows that more effort was put into this than just a cosmetic bundle. For the ongoing “Path to Doomsday” story, this is also a clever intermediate step: Ultron as a standalone PvE adversary builds tension before the story likely progresses towards Doctor Doom in one of the next chapters. Moreover, for those interested in Marvel Rivals but not keen on PvP, the new mode offers an easier entry point into the game's story events without having to prove themselves against other players.
From a gameplay perspective, the scope of the update remains manageable: there are no new playable heroes, but there are the balance changes and bug fixes listed above, which should primarily affect Thor, Peni Parker, and Hela mains.
